Services

Field Service for Sound Systems

Are you having a problem with an existing sound system? We can help! Hire us to optimize your sound system by first analyzing your venue, equipment and connections and then by making necessary changes or upgrades. If we find bad cables (which is very typical), we will repair or replace them. We may also make recommendations for improving room acoustics or suggest upgrading your equipment. Once all the mechanical work is taken care of, we will re-tune the entire system to sound the best that it can for your purposes inside of your venue. We can also optimize your recording chain for clarity and intelligibility.

Teaching & Training at Your Facility

We teach interactive classes in Q&A format on a wide variety of subjects. We offer personal training for members of your FOH team for live or post-production mixing and recording, and personal training for your maintenance & service techs including how to troubleshoot cable interconnection problems, root out noise problems such as hum and feedback, proper use and care of microphones, maintenance and care of audio cables and soldering skills.

In-House Repairs at Audio Jock Labs

We perform audio equipment repairs in our purpose-built laboratory. We specialize in the repair of vacuum tube and solid-state instrument amps down to the component level of the circuit board. We fix amp heads, combo amps, speaker cabinets (including wooden cabinet repairs and re-foaming of old speakers) and FX pedals (both repairs and modifications). Sales of Used and/or Refurbished Pro Audio and Hi-Fi Stereo Equipment

Audio Jock began bench work in the early 80’s by repairing audio cables for houses of worship. This lead to the repair of pro audio equipment and loudspeakers, which lead to the repair of personal instrument amps and pedals for musicians. Today, we take in a lot of used and donated audio equipment, clean it, fix it up, and post it for sale on our website for modest prices. LION of JUDAH Recording Studio

In 2006, Audio Jock built a recording studio based around ProTools HD system. At LOJ, we focus on capturing the true sound of your voice and instruments and then creating a mix that is pleasing to your ears and one that will excite your audience. This studio space is intimate (small) but quite functional and great for an individual singer / songwriter / guitarist / keyboardist who wants to put ideas onto disc, create a demo CD, or have their music mixed for on-line release. The mix console is Digidesign/Focusrite C24 with Mackie 824 and Genelec 1030A nearfield monitors, with Genelec subwoofer in the control room. We use preamps by Avalon Design and John Hardy, and all tube compression by Manley Labs. If your music is already recorded and you only require mixing services, that’s fine. CIVIL Radio Speakers™

Within Audio Jock is a cabinet work shop where we hand-craft CIVIL Radio Speakers™ and fine instrument speakers. Radio speakers are self-powered, personal portable loudspeakers that can be used in many different room configurations: Our utility series sport unicolor stained wood cabinets or painted surfaces (your color choice). Each speaker can be placed on the floor, mounted to a wall, or set on a speaker tripod. Two speakers can accommodate a medium size indoor/outdoor event of up to 30 people.

Our flagship hand-painted series of CIVIL Radio Speakers™ are designed to be functional art in the spirit of being the perfect high-end gift with no equal or clone in existence. These speakers are heirloom quality, self-powered, artistically decorated works of art. Each is a one-of-a-kind creation, hand painted and signed by one of three artists. They are fantastic to look at and can fit into any décor because they are fully customizable. Decorate your favorite room or executive office, accent your living room furniture, memorialize a loved one, pet, or family event with a portrait painting or with a collage of photos. Other designs surfaces include your choice of color and texture of real leather, topographical maps, and hand-carved white birch log siding. These are perfect décor for private camps, summer homes and vacation homes where you want to make an artistic statement and have the ultimate conversation piece. CIVIL Radio Speakers™ (CRS) are self-powered via built-in Dayton Audio 2-channel, 30 watt amplifier. Hard-wired input connections include 1/8” stereo jack, S/PDIF optical, and RCA jacks. Wireless input connection to these speakers is via Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi, so you can stream audio from your smart phone, etc. Volume control and input selections are made via hand-held remote (included). Connect your smart phone, tablet, MP3 player, home stereo, computer, television set-top box, DVD / CD player. Because they are light weight and portable, these speakers are great for traveling musicians, buskers, tailgate and pool parties. Enhance you backyard gathering with great sound from CRS. Put one outside on the porch, in the living room or even hanging on the wall in the billiard room. Each radio speaker is hand-crafted one at a time and is assembled using foreign & domestic parts. Many speakers are constructed using recycled materials for artistic expression, and our manufacturing is environmentally conscious. Gideon™ Vacuum Tube Amplifiers

Our vacuum tube amplifiers are designed to be small, simple, and mighty – they are designed for tech-savvy people who want to create their own tone. Our amps are uncluttered and simple to use with very few controls, and come in power levels of between 3 and 10 watts. Just plug your instrument or pedal board output into the input jack of the amp. Connect your favorite extension speaker to the amp output, turn it on and play. For those of you who are technically savvy and experienced working with high–voltage electronics, and you are looking for great DIY project, begin with the Gideon™ amp. They are designed to be easily mod-ed so that you can create your own tone. Try adding a tone stack or EQ stage just beyond the preamp tube, or add a master volume control just before the output tube(s). You can add your own insert jack or a buffered DI output. You can install it into your own wooden case or practice amp and carry it to your next gig – show it off to your friends! Modify it much or use it straight out of the box. Do-It-Yourself Kits & Educational Projects

Our DIY kits include Gideon™ tube amps, powered radio speakers and educational electronics for junior technicians and audio enthusiasts. Do you have kids with an interest in electronics? Spend an afternoon or a weekend with them learning about circuits and assembly techniques as you work together on one of these fine projects. We welcome suggestions for DIY projects, so please write to us and let us know. The products that we build, after all, are for your enjoyment.

Cables by Audio Jock

We build our own high quality audio cables for instrument, speaker and microphone use. We use high-quality Mogami cable, hand-soldered to Switchcraft and Neutrik connectors. (We do not believe in solderless connectors here at AJ, so please do not ask.) We often use multiple layers of shrink-wrap tubing between connector and cable to provide strain relief – you choose the color to be shown (yellow, blue, green, white, or red). Our cables are made to order and built to deliver many years of dependable service. As for the cables that you already own and would like to have repaired, we can fix them to better than brand new for a modest sum. Send them in for full testing and connector replacement.
