1964 Sylvania 14-Watt Stereo Tube Amplifier
Take a vintage, all tube, 1964 Sylvania entertainment console with record changer and AM/FM radio and strip away the wooden cabinet and old, tired speakers. What do you have left? A gorgeous, unadulterated, completely original, 2-channel, 14WPC tube amplifier, an RIAA control module with phonographic inputs, and an AM/FM tube tuner (the turntable is available also). My focus here is the tube amplifier and solid-state phonograph control module because the possible uses for these two pieces of audio history are endless! All equipment works well.
The amplifier is simple: Two RCA input jacks feed a 12AX7 preamp tube, which drives a pair of 6V6GT output tubes – there is no input volume control on the amp itself – you must use the Loudness adjustment on the control module. There is a two-prong electrical cord, power transformer, 5Y3GT rectifier tube followed by a 3-stage can-type filter capacitor. The modest output transformers are bobbin-type and are wound for 3.2 ohm output impedance (no multi-tap available). This unit is all original with no replacement parts or modifications of any kind – a vintage amp collector’s dream! The tubes are all original Sylvania, clearly marked. The amp comes with the manufacturer’s original schematic which was glued to the inside of the wooden console cabinet, and I cut it out in one piece! Consider the schematic ‘plaque’ as part of this collection as it tells the story of origin.
The phono stage control module is beautiful. It has the shape of 1RU rack equipment with a brushed aluminum faceplate bearing the Sylvania name and insignia. All the knobs are present: Balance (left-to-right), Loudness (volume), Treble, and Bass. On the back side, this unit is clearly all solid state. The RCA lead-in wires connect your MMC turntable to the RIAA network and controls. The module’s RCA output leads connect to the input RCA jacks of the amplifier. See the gallery of photos for up-close equipment and schematic details.
I am offering this stereo tube amplifier, solid-state control module, and wooden schematic ‘plaque’ for sale, as-pictured in the gallery, for $350.00, shipping included. Please contact me with any questions you may have.

Acoustic Research AR-2ax Loud Speakers
Early 1970’s production 3-way loudspeakers by Acoustic Research. The Walnut wood veneer cabinets are in truly excellent condition for their age. The linen grill cloths on this pair are original, un-torn and in good shape, but they do appear ‘tea-stained’ which is typical of this type speaker of this age. The AR-2ax emblems on the front covers and the manufacturer’s certificates glued to the back cabinets are all original. The right side woofer is original and has been re-foamed. The left side woofer appears to have been replaced entirely, and there is one small but visible break in it’s foam surround. Both left and right midranges and tweeters are original. The tweeter dome of the left side speaker is pushed-in a bit. The front view of the speakers with the grill covers removed shows some sections of plywood veneer missing here and there. All of the above mentioned details are clearly revealed in the extensive photo gallery.
This pair of speakers sounds pretty good in 3-way mode. Did you know that they were created to be bi-amped? See the photo showing rear connections – the original jumpers are still in place for 3-way operation – remove the jumper and add an amp channel for the hi end. These vintage speakers are in need of a new owner who wants to perform a degree of restoration, perhaps even an upgrade or two. The speakers will look fantastic once the grill cloths are cleaned, the cabinets are re-oiled and the emblems polished. Behind the grill covers, I recommend that you re-foam the left woofer or look for an original replacement entirely (I saw one on eBay for $70 at the time of this writing). I have not ventured inside these speakers, which to do, you must remove the subwoofer and enter the front of the cabinet because the rear panels are sealed in place. If you go a little deeper and upgrade the internal cross-overs, you would have yourself a fantastic sounding pair of loudspeaker history of a brand and a vintage which is sought after by many collectors, enthusiasts, and AR aficionados. There are excellently written documents available on the internet that showcase refurbishing the AR-3 and AR-2 models.
I am offering this pair of AR-2ax’s for sale, as-is, for $200.00. Shipping costs extra. Please see the gallery of photos for more physical descriptions, or contact me with any questions you may have.

We are talking about two completely separate but complimentary Bose components here. Nearly complete because I do not have the 5 mini Bose speakers that originally attached to the amplifier unit, though the LSPS amplifier is the subwoofer. The AV38 is a DVD player with a large capacity internal hard drive recorder to store dozens upon dozens of your favorite movies and audio CD’s. This unit has on-board push-button controls, as well as a master wireless controller. Optional additional wireless controllers are available for this unit. The original DCS91 power supply accompanies this unit. The AV38 takes in multiple audio and video sources in various formats: composite video, S-video, digital video on RCA jacks, with video outputs on S-video and composite RCA connector. Digital audio input/output available on both analog RCA jacks and optical. This unit has no HDMI connections at all, though you could purchase an S-Video to HDMI up-converter on eBay for $119 at the time of this writing). The audio output of the Bose AV38 connects to audio input of the the Bose LSPS subwoofer / 5.1 surround sound amplifier via included Ethernet cable. All you have to do to complete the equipment connections is attach 5 external speakers using the surround amp’s RCA output connectors.
These components come with a master wireless hand-held controller and ALL documentation for every piece of equipment. ALL connecting cable between the units are included. The AV38 internal memory comes preloaded with many movies and many dozens of audio CD’s. Please contact us for a list of all pre-recorded media.
